Resin driveway restoration in Leeds

Leeds has taken to resin faster than almost anywhere else in West Yorkshire. Drive through Alwoodley, Horsforth or the newer estates on the city's edge and you will see it everywhere — the smooth, seamless finish that made resin the default choice for a modern driveway. A city of very different driveways

Leeds grew rich on wool, and its housing still shows it. There are Victorian villas in Headingley and Chapel Allerton with generous frontages, dense back-to-back terraces through Harehills and Burley where every square metre counts, interwar semis across Moortown and Crossgates, and large modern estates pushing out towards the ring road. Resin has ended up on all of them, and each brings its own problems.

On a tight terraced frontage the drive takes constant traffic in a small area and wears unevenly. On a large suburban plot the issue is more often shade — mature trees along a Roundhay or Adel street produce leaf fall and damp that a smaller open drive never sees. Why Leeds resin drives go green

Leeds sits in the Aire valley, and the combination of a wet climate and plenty of mature tree cover is exactly what algae wants. A resin-bound surface is permeable by design — water passes through it rather than running off, which is a genuine advantage on a city plot with limited drainage. The same open texture holds a little moisture near the surface, and in a shaded spot that is all it takes for a green film to establish.

It looks like the resin is failing. It almost never is. In the large majority of cases the surface underneath is perfectly sound and what you are looking at is a build-up sitting on top of it.

Cleaned, recoated, restored

We start with a controlled clean using a flat surface cleaner rather than a narrow jet, at a pressure matched to resin. That lifts dirt and organic growth out of the texture without stripping resin from around the aggregate — which is what causes the loose stone we are often called in to repair after someone else has been at it.

The surface is then treated with a biocide so the growth does not simply return in the spring. Where the drive has also dulled, lost colour or started shedding stone, a fresh UV-stable resin coat re-binds the aggregate, restores depth of colour and re-seals against weather and staining. On a sound drive it is the difference between a surface that looks tired and one that looks close to new.
